Islamic Months List and Order

The Islamic (Hijri) calendar has 12 lunar months: Muharram, Safar, Rabi al-awwal, Rabi al-thani, Jumada al-awwal, Jumada al-thani, Rajab, Shaban, Ramadan, Shawwal, Dhul-Qadah and Dhul-Hijjah. Four of them — Muharram, Rajab, Dhul-Qadah and Dhul-Hijjah — are sacred months.

Because a lunar year is about 354 days, every Hijri month begins roughly 10-11 days earlier each Gregorian year. This page lists all twelve months with their key significance and highlights the current Hijri month computed in your browser.

Important: The start of each month is confirmed by crescent sighting, so a month can be 29 or 30 days and may begin a day earlier or later than computed.
